Chapter 15: Athine
I was back in Olympus almost immediately. Finding the golem would not be a problem. She was in the courtyard of my fatherâs strong hold. The rumor is that Medusa froze the golem in this very spot many years ago. My father had always thought that waking the stone woman would be the key to his takeover of Olympus. Today, though, it appeared that waking up the frozen witch was going to be my destiny. I was closing in on the golem fast when Seright appeared before me.
âStop, Athine, you know not what you do.â
âStand aside Seright. You do not know what you interfere with.â
âNo, Athine, it is you who does not understand. I cannot allow you to awaken the frozen golem.â
âHow, exactly, do you know what I am about to do? If she was not supposed to be set free then why let Harmonia try all those years?â
âI was there when Medusa froze this witch. Kinir vowed she would have her revenge and she would send a messenger with great magic. At the time, we all thought that freezing her in stone would stop her; apparently, it has not. I had a vision that you were going to release her. Therefore, I have come here to stop you. Harmonia, well, she never had enough power to release the witch. There was no reason to go up against a child of Ares on a task bequeathed to them by Ares when there was no harm.â
âNot you too! I am so tired of people with visions. Everyone seems to be having visions. Is anyone interested in the vision I was given? I have seen a vision of the world at Harmoniaâs feet. You say she is not powerful enough, but she has fooled us all. Stand aside while I complete my destiny. I will awaken the stone golem and together we will stop Harmonia from taking over the world.â
âCan you not see, Athine, that the witch is evil? She will not help you. I do not know what you saw in this vision, but releasing her will not be the answer to your quest. Harmonia would never harm you or betray you. This witch will. She came to these lands as a dark and mysterious spirit creature. She called herself the Queen of the Banâlerâeuy. She killed the goddess you see frozen in the stone before you to overtake her body. She killed goddesses everywhere to take their powers in her quest for supreme power. Nothing good will come of this.â
âAgain, Seright, stand aside. I do not wish to harm you, but I will do what I need to.â
âLittle Athine, do you think you can harm an elder goddess?â
âI care not what your age or lineage is. Stand in my way again and find out what powers I control.â I had moved to start the ritual to unlock the stone witch when Seright came up behind me and attacked. I had warned her not to interfere. I really did not want to hurt anyone that was not involved in this deception.
